Satisfaccion

The Other One

I could find a million nuances for how to improve me and influence my life,
as though, if I could just identify that one—like The One, the love—
I would know, it would know and that would be that.
But considering how in almost 29 years I have not grasped one,
indeed come closer to wondering if it is The One,
I can safely deduce that the search itself is what has come to complete me.
After all, as another I says, one can mostly rely on being this happy
—no more or less—for the rest of adulthood.
We grow into stasis.
That’s why adulthood is so forgettable.
It’s the longest period of the same mood one has in my whole life.
And now one realises that during prep time, adolescence, I had no idea.
I still don’t always like to get my feet wet on the beach.
And sometimes I can handle leaky toilets better than other times.
It just gets as good as it can.
I can be grateful for that.
I can be grateful for getting more than I thought I might
have or could try for, and didn’t.
In that sense, I’ve failed to dream big enough.
In another sense I’ve surmounted just enough to get here.
So, where then?

Here in This New Place Is Your Memory

Here in this new place it is reasonable to own
a dog or to tell somebody you've been needing
them less. A tree is always on a journey
toward becoming a better tree, limbs waving like eager sails
on an anchored ship. It is sad when you understand that nothing
else can come along. It is worse when you care
a little less. What you love requires a prioritized list, thus
that nothing is equal but to itself. And you are equal to a dangerous
ivory moon. Here there is sacrifice on the doorstep
of beauty. Here there is an altar made of sand. It dismantles
no less than itself to please the sea.

"What happens in one part of the
world can affect us all. Some issues can only be tackled
by acting together. Countries have resources, expertise
or technology that, if shared, can result in mutual benefit
Working together is not just a moral obligation to help
those less fortunate but is an investment in the long-term
prosperity of all".

Happy Birthday Nelson. You were my childhood hero and still are. You've shown so many a better world is possible; with a little forgiveness, hard work and humility.

"Love doesn't die a natural death. Love has to be killed, either by neglect or narcissism. Those guilty of these two crimes of the heart always hide behind excuses convenient; too ashamed, lacking in integrity and courage to face the truth. To them, it is always something other than their own actions, desires and self-importance that dictate circumstances. For these people, so blind to truth, true love can never be fully experienced for they have never really given of themselves all that they are."

kids don't stay with you if you do it right. It's a job where, the better you are, the more surely you wont be needed in the long run.

Crying

“Crying is all right in its own way while it lasts. But you have to stop sooner or later, and then you still have to decide what to do.” ― C.S. Lewis

Corn

Corn, we learn, is the base of all creation. Human creation in particular was a process of trial and error. The first humans were made of mud but they weren’t able to reproduce and they weren’t able to give praise. That wouldn’t do. Next it was advised to make the humans out of wood but that didn’t prove successful either. One day there was a terrible storm. The animals blamed the wood people and chased them into the forest where they turned into monkeys, explaining our resemblance. On third try, a man was made from a kernel of corn. Finally, this was right.  But something was still missing. The man of corn was put to sleep and as he slept he dreamt up a woman. He awoke to find the woman of corn from his dream laying by his side. Now there was balance.

Corn is our creation. Our universe is a kernel of corn. But more than just a means to a beginning, corn maintains life. Women use corn to make masa. In one smooth movement, the same graceful flow of a ballet, her hand scoops precisely the right amount of dough and rolls it into a perfect sphere. The sphere is tossed expertly from hand to hand until it flattens into an even circle. The tortilla.

Turning and Turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world.

Yeats, the second Coming

okonkwo was deeply grieved. And it was not just a personal grief. He mourned for the clan, which he saw breaking up and falling apart...

Things fall Apart
"It is already to late... our own men and our sons have joined the ranks of the stranger. They have joined his religion and upheld his government. If we should try to drive out the white man in Umuofia we should find it easy. There are only two of them. But what of our own people who are following their way and have been given power.

Things fall apart
